A comienzos del siglo XIX, no hay mucha más hermosa ni mas deseada en la villa de Araxa que Ana Jacinta
de San José, apodada Beija. Beija esta enamorada y comprometida con el acaudalado Antonio Sampaio. Llega la tragedia a la
vida de Beija cuando su belleza atrae la mirada del poderoso Comendador Mota, quien rapta la joven y la obliga a ser su amante.
Antonio, desilusionado, se casa con Aninha Felizardo. Años más tarde, Beija regresa a Araxa y compra una finca, la Chacara
de Jatoba, donde instala un exclusivo burdel con una sola cortesana, ella misma. A base de servir solo a los hombres más importantes
de la región, Beija se ha hecho rica e influyente y, eventualmente, separa a Antonio de su mujer.
In the early nineteenth century, Ana Jacinta de San José, nicknamed "Beija" is the most beautiful and coveted girl in
the village of Araxa. She is engaged, and very much in love, with the wealthy Antonio Sampaio. Tragedy strikes when Beija´s
beauty attracts the interest of powerful Comendador Mota, who kidnaps the girl and forces her to become his mistress. A disappointed
Antonio marries Aninha Felizardo. Several years later, Beija, now a wealthy woman returns to Araxa. She buys a country house
called the Chacara de Jatoba where she sets up an exclusive brothel regented by one courtesan: herself. Only serving the most
important men in the region, Beija becomes rich and influential, and eventually manages to lure Antonio away from his wife.
