Silvana es una niña de once años que sueña con ser cantante. Vive en una lujosa mansión con su padre,
Rolando, que la quiere entrañablemente, y su madre, Regina, una mujer fría y ambiciosa que no tiene tiempo para ella. La otra
persona importante en su vida es Macrina, la fiel nana que ha cuidado de ella toda su vida.
En cierta ocasión, Silvana
asiste a una feria popular donde oye cantar a una niña llamada Mariana que guarda un asombroso parecido con ella. Al finalizar
la actuación de Mariana, Silvana se acerca a ella y las dos se dan cuenta que son idénticas.
Ambas sienten como si se
hubieran conocido desde siempre y nace entre ellas una amistad que deciden guardar en secreto y comienzan a verse con frecuencia.
Mariana es una niña dulce y sencilla que vive con su madre, una modesta costurera llamada Rocío, su tía Elena y su abuelita
Pura. Canta y baila muy bien, y a Silvana, quien reconoce que ella tiene poco talento, se le ocurre que Mariana podría tomar
su lugar en una audición que le consiguió su tío Gerardo para formar parte de un nuevo grupo infantil. Mariana piensa que
es una mala idea, pero finalmente acepta a cambio de que Silvana la suplante en su examen de matemáticas. Todo resulta de
maravilla: Mariana es elegida para el grupo y Silvana pasa el examen, sin que nadie se de cuenta del engaño. Pero una nube
oscura se cierne sobre la felicidad de las dos amigas.
Rolando muere repentinamente y Silvana se hunde en una profunda
depresión. Regina se queda atónita al enterarse de que su esposo la deja al borde de la ruina, sin embargo, su hermano Gerardo
le hace ver que aún le queda un valioso recurso: el talento de Silvana. Dominados por la ambición, Regina y Gerardo se avocan
a la tarea de sacarla de su depresión para poderla explotar, pero los esfuerzos de los médicos son inútiles. Un día, Mariana
llega a visitar a su amiga a escondidas. Al verla Gerardo y Regina se dan cuenta de que es a ella a quien Gerardo oyó cantar.
Para asegurar su ‘mina de oro’, secuestran a Mariana y, bajo amenazas, la obligan a integrarse al nuevo grupo
musical. A Silvana, que se encuentra muy enferma, la recluyen en una pequeña cabaña al fondo del jardín bajo el cuidado de
su nana, sin darle mayor importancia a su salud.
Así inicia una extraordinaria aventura llena de peligros y sorpresas
que mantendrá en suspenso a toda la familia hasta el último capítulo. Ayudada por sus nuevos amigos del grupo, a quienes confía
su verdadera identidad, Mariana hará todo lo posible para rescatar a Silvana, mientras Rocío, desesperada, se dedica en cuerpo
y alma a buscar a su hija desaparecida.
