En el México del Siglo XIX, el Dr. Manuel Fuentes Guerra hereda una fortuna del padre
que nunca quiso reconocerlo. Ahora convertido en un caballero millonario, el médico busca una esposa apropiada.
Su
elección recae en Matilde, hija de una familia aristocrática, pero venida a menos. Manuel y la familia de
Matilde ignoran que ella está comprometida en secreto con un oficial pobre llamado Adolfo Solís.
La
madre de Matilde consigue que a Adolfo lo encarcelen, y obliga a su hija a casarse con Manuel.
Adolfo huye de la cárcel, pero no a tiempo para impedir la boda. Sin embargo, Matilde se entera de la trampa
de su familia y sospecha que su marido tuvo parte en ella. Decide abandonarlo, pero Manuel la descubre y se la lleva
a la fuerza a su hacienda donde la somete a todo tipo de vejaciones físicas y morales.
Adolfo, bajo otra identidad, llega a la hacienda y es contratado
por Manuel quien le otorga toda su confianza. A regañadientes, Matilde ha descubierto que su marido tiene muchas
virtudes y termina enamorada de él. La felicidad de Matilde y Manuel durará poco, sobre todo cuando
el médico descubra que su administrador es el ex novio de su mujer. A Matilde la espera el repudio de su marido,
la expulsión de su hogar y la vergüenza pública ya que está embarazada y Manuel no quiere reconocer a su hijo.

to recognize it. Now turned into a millionaire horseman, the doctor looks for an appropriate wife.
Its election falls

forces her daughter to marry with Manuel. Adolph flees from the jail, but not in time to prevent the wedding. Nevertheless,
Matilde finds out the trap of its family and suspects that his husband had part in her. It decides to leave it, but it discovers
it to Manuel and takes it to the force to its property it puts under where it all type of physical humiliations and morals.
Adolph, under another identity, arrives at the property and is engaged by Manuel who grants all their confidence to him.
Grudgingly, Matilde is shortage that his husband has many virtues and finishes enamored with him. The happiness of Matilde
and Manuel will last little, mainly when the doctor discovers that his administrator is the ex- fianc2e of his wife. To Matilde
