Julia Montaño es una joven de carácter fuerte y arrogante, y la mujer más hermosa de San Gaspar, un pueblo olvidado donde su padre. Don Julio, es el hacendado más rico y poderoso. Es ella quien se ha hecho cargo de la hacienda, mientras su hermano Álvaro se dedica a la vagancia, a emborracharse y a abusar de su posición. En un juego de poker preparado por Casandra, Gabriel gana la hacienda de Ignacio, y éste le pide un plazo de tres meses para pagarle y recuperar sus tierras. Por curiosidad, Gabriel viaja a San Gaspar para conocer la hacienda y, cuando conoce a Julia, nace entre ellos una atracción inmediata, por lo que decide quedarse en el pueblo. A Julia sin embargo, la enfurece el sentimiento que Gabriel ha despertado en ella.

Al notar la atracción entre ellos, Casandra comienza a intrigar para evitar que Don Julio acepte una relación entre su hija y Gabriel. Cassandra desea tenerlo todo: casarse con Julio y ser amante de Gabriel. Cuando Gabriel toma posesión de la hacienda de Ignacio Don Julio usa todas sus influencias para evitar que prospere.
